I am a competitive athlete who believes one must connect the mind, body, and spirit in order to succeed. My passion for physical activity began young. Competing in track and cross country, I completed my first marathon at the age of 16 and went on to become a competitive cyclist at the national level. I have won many triathlons, duathlons, and running events. Recently, I won the inaugural Santa Barbara International Marathon and I am now a competitive elite marathoner. My background as a nurse and nurse practitioner provides me with a wealth of knowledge in preventative medicine and nutrition. I understand that exercise alone cannot complete a healthy lifestyle. I am a certified spin instructor and self described life style coach. I believe the body does not lie- health is a tangible element.

Pilates has become an integral part of my exercise routine to restore balance and prevent injury. After years of mat experience and work on the traditional reformer, I find the SPX Megaformer a supreme tool in achieving one's perfect body. Because I believe that the body alone cannot be healthy without the mind, I find the concentration, muscle fatigue and strength conditioning achieved on the Megaformer to be a true blend of mental and physical challenge. The connection one will feel toward self and development in my classes will boost self confidence, mood, and wellness.

Growing up in the mountains of Northern California, China developed an innate love for the outdoors. She moved to Santa Barbara to earn her B.A. at UCSB, and immediately fell in love with this beach city and discovered her passion for health and fitness. Living here she has continued her childhood hobbies of soccer, skiing, and hiking, while also picking up a new found love for running, and yoga.

As a trainer China knows the importance of both strength training and cardio conditioning. The problem she notices is that most people lack time and motivation to do both consistently. SPX is an amazing fusion of both cardio and strength to give a truly efficient workout in a short amount of time. After just one workout she was hooked.

As a NASM certified personal trainer, boot camp, spin and SPX instructor China works to educate and inspire others. Her goal is to teach her clients how to balance living fully while maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle. She strives to push her clients through new barriers to discover their true fitness potential and keep them looking and feeling good. "Looking for a challenge? I grew up in Santa Barbara and am happy to be back in my hometown (Go Dons! Class of 1993).  I spent about a decade in the Bay Area.  I'm a Berkeley Alum (Go Bears!) and lived in San Francisco for many years enjoying the vibrant city life.  Now I'm back and love raising my family here.  I am very involved in the community from PEP groups to the Junior League.  I am very busy running after my 4 year old daughter and my 1 year old son.   Having 2 babies in the span of 3 years will do a number on your body.  But you can easily get the Mommy Makeover you want with the effective and efficient workout the Megaformer allows us to give you.  I love regular Pilates but the mat classes I take don't do much for my arms and my legs especially.  The Megaformer is a full body workout that will rock your core,  will get you to your fat burning potential, and shred those trouble spots.  Life is too short to be uncomfortable in your own skin...you owe it to yourself to get fit.  We'll give you the very best way to do it by far!

With a mind-body integrative approach to health and fitness, Megan is a certified personal trainer and holds a Masters of Educational Counseling (M.Ed) from USC. Her extensive background in both fitness and counseling makes her a reputable life coach and fitness professional as she provides individualized therapy to her clients by connecting body to mind. Along with this integrative approach, she specializes in nutrition, weight loss, breathing, stretching, and sport-specific training.

Megan has 5 years of experience as a certified fitness trainer and nutrition advisor, training her clients in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles Areas. As a small business owner, she now runs both local and national weight loss challenges. Megan also serves as an Instructor at the American Fitness and Nutrition Academy where she teaches her personal training students how to become well-rounded fitness and nutrition experts.

Kyle's love for fitness first came about through dance. He began mimicing the moves of Michael Jackson and teaching himself how to break dance at he age of 6.It was not until 22 that he decided to take classes and push his skill to the next level. He now takes classes weekly and excels in the styles of Flamenco, Break, and Street Salsa. Kyle also performs, teaches and even choreographs. Between the ages of 6 and 22: Kyle realized his potential in a different area: wrestling. Although he only started at the age of 14, he quickly became part of the varsity wrestling team at Dos Pueblos High School. Throughout high school, Kyle captured 2 consecutive league championships and competed in many top notch tournaments in both California and Nevada. Kyle also assissted coaching the local freestlye wrestling club that had kids from ages 6 to 17 participating. Currently Kyle is taking classes at the American Fitness and Nutrition Academy. He is working towards earning his diploma in Advanced Fitness Training and Nutritional Counceling. Once he graduates from the Academy, Kyle will use his degree and his experience with SPX pilates to develop Elite and challenging programs that integrate the wellness of the mind and body as a whole. Whether it was running with my mother everyday in elementary school, playing on the basketball team in high school or currently teaching Pilates I have always been physically active. I worked in both aviation and social work, integrating exercise into both professions.

I can honestly say I have run in every major city in the United States, many small towns and several international destinations when I worked as a flight attendant. In graduate school for school work I did my masters project on exercise as an important part of therapy and even made an exercise video for therapy. I started practicing Pilates over ten years ago and now I teach it.

Teaching is my passion and I hope you feel that enthusiasm when you take my challenging, but fun, energetic classes.

Beginning with a disciplined dance background, Kayla Johnson went full force applying her strength and grace towards the fitness industry 17 years ago. Wellness, health and leadership have always been the center point of her life, and dedication to achieving her own personal fitness goals has given her the desire and fortitude to help others attain theirs.

A NASM Certified personal trainer, Kayla’s experiences range from coaching professional athletes, one on one personal training, group training, instructing popular group exercise classes, to running departments of high volume national fitness chains. Kayla’s passion drives her clients to find their own happiness coupled with mind/body harmony. She facilitates accomplishing goals and increasing fitness aptitude and ability - promoting long term, permanent results.

I have been active ever since I can remember. As I got older, fitness and health became more and more of a priority in my life. I was someone that believed I could do it all in the gym. Fit Buddha came and humbled me. I wasn't able to finish a lot of the exercises at first. My flexibility, muscle endurance, and use of certain muscle groups weren't able to handle these workouts. I kept working at it. I became amazed by the results and the new thresholds I was accomplishing. Now I have the pleasure of teaching these amazing classes. Fitness is truly a lifestyle; and a lifestyle I enjoy seeing people thrive in. I believe in taking the "work" out of working out and creating a fun atmosphere for those I train. I strive to motivate my clients through all thresholds and help them achieve their fitness goals on a path to a healthy lifestyle.

Sheri is excited to be part of the Fit Buddha team! Originally from Orange County, California, Sheri grew up extremely active in sports-softball, basketball and competitive horseback riding. After graduating from Pepperdine University, she moved to Santa Barbara and began working as an Account Controller. While crunching numbers during the day, Sheri continued to pursue her love for indoor cycling at night, eventually becoming a certified spin instructor. Sheri has been an avid indoor cyclist for over 10 years. Her rides are intense and rewarding...she cannot wait to share her energy, passion and great music in her classes with you!

Having lived in Southern California my entire life I have a big appreciation for the outdoors. I love hiking, biking, the beach and basically anything active. I moved to Santa Barbara originally to go to school, but soon after decided to take time to travel and see the world while working with a private school for young children. After that memorable time I worked at local non-profit where I realized my interest in health and psychology. In the last few years my love of fitness has blossomed and that’s when I found Fit Buddha. First starting with indoor cycling classes and then the megaformer classes, loving the feeling of being fit and strong. Now being certified to teach indoor cycling I love creating a fun, challenging experience for each class, leaving people with the feeling they have just gone on a great ride. Currently, I have taken the plunge to pursue my interest in health and nutrition and am studying to get my degree as a Registered Dietician. I enjoy combining my passion for health, nutrition, and fitness in everything I do.

I am a Megaformer FANATIC! This MEGA BIONIC Pilates-style workout has changed my life! I never used to be a machine work out kind of guy. I always preferred to be running, swimming, biking, rowing, etc until I met the Megaformer and the Lagree Fitness method. Since our opening in March of 2011, I have lost 30lbs and reduced my body fat ratio by more than half. As a class instructor I pay attention to every student, from the timid first timer, to those Fit Buddha diehards who are always looking to be pushed further. To provide the perfect workout to those extremes and for everyone who falls somewhere in between is my ultimate goal....and I know how to do it! I am a former NCAA Athlete, Triathlete, certified personal trainer, 20+ years Pilates practitioner, businessman, beach bum and Father. I know that your time is valuable and that is why I pledge that if you give me 40 minutes (for a Megaformer class); 50 minutes (for Private or Small Group training) or 1 hour (Combo class - 30 min Megaformer, 30 min indoor cycling) of your time, I will guide you in the transformation of your Body Temple. Since Fit Buddha opened it’s doors in 2011 Caren has been a loyal client and is now thrilled to be part of the team! Caren grew up in Manhattan Beach and moved to Santa Barbara in 2003 where she attended graduate school. She grew up extremely active either playing sports such as soccer, spending time hiking or rock climbing in the mountains or swimming or surfing at the beach. These days her favorite ways to stay in shape are running, hiking, cycling, and of course Fit Buddha. She remains passionate about her life long love for snowboarding and finds fit buddha to be a great way to get in shape for the season. Caren’s classes offer a challenging and result orientated workout. She loves working out the abdominals and glutes the most but you will always leave getting a well rounded workout that is geared for results. She believes the two key ingredients to success are determination and consistency. She is also cycling certified.

I am a central coast native but Santa Barbara is where my heart is and I have been so blessed to grow and learn here. I spent fifteen years training with multiple dance companies throughout California and Georgia travelling and studying my first love, classical ballet. During my recovery from dance related injuries and corrective surgeries I discovered my passion for fitness, spinning and leading a healthy lifestyle.

In the past few years I have been honored to be a part of several youth programs in Santa Barbara leading outdoor fitness camps, focusing on creating healthy body images in teens and finding new ways to inspire them to be active as an individual as well as a team. In that time I found that my enthusiasm for working out and teaching was no longer a hobby but my passion in life. In addition to my experience with youth programs I have had the honor of working as a group exercise and spinning instructor for a few years. In this time I have been blessed to meet many incredible people and get to know them through their personal fitness goals and journeys. I am inspired daily by the people I have the pleasure of working with and am so appreciative of the joy they bring to my life and that I am also able to be a part of their journey in wellness and life. I am excited to bring my enthusiasm for spinning as well as my love and appreciation for wellness to the Fit Buddha family.

I believe the most important factor of a workout is the willingness to learn, learn the machine, learn your body, learn your limits and where you can push yourself. As a student at FitBuddha, I committed to learning the Megaformer and how to make necessary adjustments on the machine to push my body farther. From this understanding, I finally saw the results that I’d been striving for. Don’t just come to class and go through the motions, come to class to learn and to push yourself. You’ll always hear me barking: DON’T GET COMPLACENT! And I mean it! I’m here to help you push yourself, so you’ll see the results that you’re looking for. During all my classes, I try to explain the modifications and advancements so you can customize your workout. Don’t let yourself get intimidated by the machine or moves, this is a very personal workout, and all that matters is if you feel it.

I grew up in the Bay Area as a competitive equestrian. From running around the hunter/jumper rings, I learned the importance of discipline and awareness of my body. My trainer was militant, and instilled in me the necessity to educate and to become my best Self. I learned to block out the external world, to focus on myself and my goals, and to recognize when I fall off course so I can correct it. This vigorous training allowed me to develop an appreciation for the Megaformer and striving to reach my goals. My teaching style in class is intense and energetic. I’m there as your coach, cheerleader, and teacher. I want to push you, and to teach you what I already know, that You’ve Got This! I want you to be comfortable with yourself and proud of yourself, that’s MY goal.

Best workout in Santa Barbara, hands down. Great if you don't have time for long workouts but like to work hard. The classes are 45 minutes, and it's a sweat dripping, total body workout the whole time. Definitely worth the money. Make sure you check out China's class.
